The Book of the Gospels

St. Martha's new Book of the Gospels is carried reverently during our celebrations of Sunday Eucharist.  It is placed on the altar during the first and second readings and then processed to the ambo.  The deacon or priest proclaims the gospel from its pages, reverences its pages with a kiss and then enthrones the Word in front of the ambo.

When the church is slightly darkened, you will notice the tabernacle and the Book of the Gospels are both illuminated.  This emphasizes two of the ways Christ is present in the Church: in the Word, and in the Sacrament of the Eucharist.
